A warm HELLO from KLEX 2013!

KLEX 2013 has received over 150 submissions from our open call this year, including works from Belgium, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland, Portugal, Taiwan, Thailand, UK, USA and more. After marathon viewings, the curatorial team consisting filmmaker James Lee, cultural researcher/DJ Chong Keat Aun and video artist Kok Siew Wai, has come to the final selection of works that’ll be shown in KLEX 2013. Selected artists have been notified on 1 September 2013. Please forgive us that due to a small volunteer admin team, we’re unable to send rejection letter to all unselected artists.
A BIG thank you to all submitted artists from around the world for your support to KLEX, it was an enriching experience to view your works!

And congratulations to all selected artists! We’re excited to show your work in KLEX 2013 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!

The festival will take place on 22-24th November, at The Annexe Gallery for the fourth time, where it has witnessed the birth of KLEX in 2010. We love this little nostalgic sentiment :)

The year we’ll have guest programmes from the Festival International Signes de Nuit, curated by Dieter Wieczorek (Germany/France); from the Filmvirus, curated by Wiwat Lertwiwatwongsa (Thailand); and from “Media-Kitchen”, a collaborative effort between Charmaine Toh (Singapore) and Okamura Keiko (Japan). All curators and/or representatives of the guest programmes will attend the festival in person. Come meet the guests!

We also have an exciting line-up for audio-visual performances. Participating performers include Andra McCartney (Canada), Chong Keat Aun, Yii Kah Hoe, Goh Lee Kwang, Wong Eng Leong, Game of Patience with Brian O’Reilly (USA), Darren Moore (Australia) & Yong Yandsen, Black Zenith, Koji Asano (Japan) & HKPT with Azzief Khaliq, Sudarshan & Christophe “Stalk” Turchi, and Jean-David Caillouët & Florian Antier (France). A truly international feast of sound & image!

Finally, a couple of artist workshops will be conducted, including exclusive film workshops by Dieter Wieczorek for students at New Era University College and Multimedia University. Canadian sound artist & scholar, Professor Andra McCartney, will conduct a soundwalk workshop that is open to the public. This soundwalk will include a group walk, reflective discussions, and individual or small group walks throughout the historical Jalan Sultan area. Interested individuals can email us to register by 1 November 2013: [email protected]

Lastly, I want to thank the ever supporting and generous Goethe-Institute Malaysia. The GI has supported KLEX for the 3rd year now. Herzlichen Dank!

Alright guys, mark your calendar and I’ll see you at KLEX 2013 in 2 months!
