Artist’s Concept :

“I am the owner of my karma.

I inherit my karma.

I am born of my karma.

I am related to my karma.

I live supported by my karma.

Whatever karma I create, whether good or evil, that I shall inherit.”

The Buddha statement in the Upajjhatthana Sutta (AN 5.57)


Inspired by Droste effect and MC Escher’s work, the Buddhist belief in Theory of Karma is conveyed via digital tools creating a simple interactive installation to explore the relationship and interaction between Karma (action) and Karmaphala (result) by generating a series of delayed video signal.





Mongo (2015), 30:00 min/sound

Cape Mongo follows the stories of five characters as they journey through the city of Cape Town. Each Mongo character is made from the city’s discarded waste – mythical ‘trash creatures’ which have emerged from the growing dumps of consumer culture. In five short films, the creatures revisit the spaces of their imagined pasts – the locations associated with their material existence and the constitution of their social relations – as if walking against the consumer-driven currents of city. From postmodern shopping malls to the bustling streets of the Bo Kaap to leafy suburbia and desolate shipping-container yards, these characters’ journeys conjure up imagery that touches on some of the historical trajectories that have lead up to the endemic inequality and social alienation which characterises present day Cape Town.

For 24 years the artist was born and lived in this city found that Cikarang city has gone through a phase that begins with agrarian social system that evolved into modern society. Thousands of factory has been built on lands of Cikarang. Disorders appear in Cikarang city, not just as a result of environmental contamination, but also through the pressure arising from the economic, social situations.

Materials used in this video are what people regard as mistakes when they take pictures. A digital panorama picture gets trajectories of motion but sometimes the trajectories are distorted by accident. A camera is controlled as moving at the constant speed so a photographer has no choice to see images being made one after another.
