Andrew Stiff
Andrew Stiff studied painting at the Chelsea School of Art in London, and gained his masters at the University of Liverpool in England where he explored his interest in digital media and architecture. Alongside Andrew’s creative practice he is also an educator, he was the Deputy Dean of the School of Media art and Design, at Linton University College in Malaysia from 2012-2015. His current post is the Senior Educator and Research Coordinator for CoCD (Centre of Communication and Design) at RMIT University in Vietnam. Andrew Stiff’s research and creative practice is concerned with developing a visual language that explores the intricacies implicit in our built environment.
Au Sow-Yee
From Malaysia, Au Sow-Yee now based in Taipei. Graduated from Chinese Culture University (Taiwan) majored in theatre arts and attained her M.F.A degree from San Francisco Art Institute (U.S.A). Her works focuses mainly in questioning, exploring as well as expanding the relation between images, image making, history, politics and power, through video installation and other mediums. Sow-Yee’s recent and future works focus on re-imagine history of Malaysia, South-east Asia and it is related region from perceptions and ideologies bounded by the Cold War. Meanwhile, she also continues her interest in image making mechanism, creating live cinema performance using and mechanical film projectors. She is also a guest writer for online magazine Promethean Fire Review and No Man’s Land.
Chris Chong Chan-Fui
Chris Chong Chan-Fui is a Malaysian artist questions and redirects the processes and methodologies within varying fields such as migration, economics, natural sciences and the moving image. His practice ranges from moving images, projections, printmaking, photography and installations. Chong has exhibited at the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden (Smithsonian Institute), Palais de Tokyo, EYE Film Institute Netherlands, Austrian Museum of Applied Arts, Museum of Canadian Contemporary Art, and Singapore Art Museum. He has also premiered at prestigious film festivals such as the Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight, Vienna, BFI London, and Toronto’s Wavelengths. In 2016, he was awarded the 2016 Fellowship of the Smithsonian Institute (Smithsonian Natural History Museum) and will attend the Cité internationale des arts artist residency in Paris. Chong has been a fan of KLEX since the very beginning, and has become part of the curatorial team for 3 editions.
KOK Siew-Wai
From Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, KOK Siew-Wai started out as a video artist, now more active as a vocal improviser and independent artist-organizer/curator. She received her B.A. in Media Study at University at Buffalo, and M.F.A. in Electronic Integrated Arts at Alfred University in USA, where she lived there from 1998-2005. Siew-Wai has shown her videos, performed and presented her curatorial screening programmes in Asia, Europe, Canada and USA. In 2015, Siew-Wai joined the Asian Meeting Festival and performed in Tokyo and Kyoto. Her text + vocal piece “Language of Self” was collected by the He Xiangning Art Museum in China. Siew‐Wai has a deep passion for the avant-garde, improvisational and experimental arts. She is the co-founder, director and co-curator of the KLEX since 2010, and is currently teaching at the Faculty of Creative Multimedia, Multimedia University, Malaysia.
Fabrizio Gilardino
Fabrizio Gilardino is an Italian-born Canadian visual/graphic artist and independent curator who divides his time between Montreal and South-East Asia. He’s the founder and co-director of AWAS!, Kuala Lumpur’s animation week, and a member of the curatorial team of KLEX (Kuala Lumpur Experimental Film, Music and Video Festival).
