Chris Chong Chan Fui
Chris Chong Chan Fui is an artist who works with varying materials in an installation format. His works question the definition of authenticity as well as the processes within the fields of science, economics, and the moving image. Chong has exhibited his works at the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden, Palais de Tokyo, EYE Film Institute Netherlands, Austrian Museum of Applied Arts, Museum of Canadian Contemporary Art, and Singapore Art Museum. He has also premiered at prestigious film festivals such as the Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight, Vienna, BFI London, and Toronto’s Wavelengths. His works are in the public collections of the Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden and the Singapore Art Museum. Chong is a Smithsonian Institute fellow (National Museum of Natural History) and a Ford Foundation fellow. Recent residences include: Cité internationale des arts artist residency (Paris), and the NTU Center for Contemporary Art artist-research residency (Singapore). In 2018, Chong will be presenting at the 2018 Gwangju Biennale, Korea. In 2019, he has been awarded the 2019 Rockefeller Foundation’s Bellagio Arts Fellowship, Italy.
Kok Siew-Wai
Kok Siew-Wai started out as a video artist, now an artist-curator and improvised vocalist. She lived and worked in USA from 1998-2005, received her B.A. in Media Study at State University of New York, SUNY-Buffalo; and her M.F.A. in Electronic Integrated Arts at Alfred University. Siew-Wai has shown her videos, performed and presented her curatorial screening programmes in Asia, Europe, Canada and USA, participating in festivals such as allEars Improvised Music Festival (Norway), Choppa Experimental and Improvised Music Festival (Singapore), Singapore International Film Festival, Singapore Night Festival, Arkipel International Experimental Film and Documentary Festival (Indonesia), Asian Meeting Festival (Japan), International Film Festival Rotterdam (Netherlands) and more. Siew-Wai has a true passion for the experimental and improvisational arts, and the DIY effort of promoting them. She is the co-founder and festival director of KLEX since 2010, and is currently teaching at the Faculty of Creative Multimedia, Multimedia University.
Usen Leong
Usen Leong was born in Penang, Malaysia. She teaches and holds workshops on documentary filmmaking while she obtaining her Master of Fine Arts degree at National Taiwan University of Arts. Since 2010, she has been involved in numerous documentary productions, interdisciplinary theatre visual design, column writing. Currently, she works as a full time lecturer at New Era University College Drama and Visuals Department. Her previous works focus mainly on themes of identity, race, diaspora, conflict between development and environment. Usen’s works have received several international nominations. She has been invited as a judge in several theatre and short film competitions in Malaysia. Being a movie, documentary and theatre lover, she writes column at MalaysiaKini (Chinese Version) and Sin Chew Daily to share her thoughts on these art forms.
Low Zu Boon
Low Zu Boon (Singapore) loves to watch, write and present cinema, and he remains severely in debt to the medium’s possibilities. He worked as a film programmer at the National Museum of Singapore Cinematheque (2011-2015) and the Singapore International Film Festival (2015-2018). He spends just as much time consuming music, and recently started Worthless Dispatch, a limited-run cassette tape label.
Fabrizio Gilardino
Fabrizio Gilardino is a Canadian/Italian graphic artist and independent curator who divides his time between Canada, Italy and Malaysia. He’s the founder and co-director of AWAS! (A Weekend of Animation Shorts) and a guest member of the film curatorial team of KLEX (Kuala Lumpur Experimental Film, Music and Video Festival). He has recently curated animation shorts programmes for George Town’s SEA Shorts Festival, Tokyo’s Image Forum Festival, and Montreal’s la lumière collective. Fabrizio has also been involved in music since the late 80s. A former contributor to the Italian magazine Musiche, he has worked for the Festival International de Musique Actuelle de Victoriaville, Montreal’s Suoni per il Popolo Festival and Bologna’s Angelica festival. He co-runs the experimental music labels &records and Mikroclimat (both from Montreal). From 2004 to 2007 he played in the improv-noise-rock trio FoodSoon and he’s currently a member of the Japanese-Canadian improv audio-visual trio achrome/アクローム.
