The 7th Kuala Lumpur Experimental Film, Video & Music Festival (KLEX) is back with its seventh edition, “KLEX 2016: SPARK”, 24-27th November 2016. The festival includes: KLEX open programmes, international guest programmes, a non-camera film workshop, artists lectures and audio-visual and music performances. This year, the festival events will take place at several artist-run independent art spaces: Lostgens’ Contemporary Artspace, Findars and Da Huang Pictures. KLEX 2016 is made possible with the support of the above-mentioned venues, and from the Goethe-Institut Malaysia, Next New Wave and the Korean Association of Film Education (KAFE).
KLEX OPEN PROGRAMMES
KLEX 2016 has received 250 submissions via the open call, from Malaysia and around the world, including Argentina, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Iceland, Indonesia, Italy, Iran, Mexico, Philippines, Singapore, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, UK, USA, Viet Nam and more. From these submissions, the curatorial committee of Andrew Stiff, Au Sow Yee, Chris Chong Chan Fui, Fabrizio Gilardino and Kok Siew Wai has selected 39 experimental shorts to create three KLEX Open Programmes.

INTERNATIONAL GUEST PROGRAMMES:
AMERICA, GERMANY, SOUTH KOREA, TAIWAN
KLEX 2016 will showcase five guest programmes from Germany, South Korea, Taiwan and USA. There will be three German Programmes: two short film programmes from the Berlinale Spotlight of the prestigious 66th Berlin International Film Festival 2015, curated by Ms. Maike Mia Höhne, and one from Lowave, curated by Ms. Silke Schmickl; an American programme featuring works from Upstate New York artists, curated by Tammy McGovern; a South Korean programme with works from Seoul based-teaching artists, curated by Choi Jonghan; and a solo film screening/cine-concert by Taiwanese filmmaker Wu Tzu-an and musician Liu Fangyi.

MUSIC & AUDIO-VISUAL PERFORMANCE
This year, we have a great international line-up of artists and musicians to present you three nights of music and performances, including Asger Thomsen (Denmark), C-drÌk (Belgium/Germany), Charlotte Clermont (Canada), Dharma (Singapore), DJ Urine (France), Ikbal S. Lubys (Indonesia), Liu Fangyi (Taiwan), Nous perçons les oreilles (Canada), Paul Timings (New Zealand), Riar Rizaldi (Indonesia) and Yngel (Denmark); and our very own Goh Yen-Lin, Kok Siew-Wai, Sudarshan Chandra Kumar, Tey Beng Tze, Wong Yok Teng and Yong Yandsen.

NON-CAMERA FILM WORKSHOP
This workshop will teach on different ways to create or destroy images on 16mm film, with clear leader film and found footage, and without a camera. Participants can bring their own materials such as ink, pens, newspaper, plastic bags, hole puncher and so on. Experience the possibilities with the moving image mechanism and hand on the film to make hand draw animation, abstract textures or something else. Limited to 15 participants only.
