ABOUT THE PERFORMERS:
Born out of boredom and the need to have something to call his own… Gnurr is a side project by Free Deserters (TiC / Like Silver) guitarist, Brendan teh. He aims to perform electronic / ambient based sets without the aid of laptops and is against the culture of “pressing play”…
Chris Golinski is an improvising percussionist residing in Penang and Southern California. His work aims to combine the various influences he has absorbed, from experimental rock to contemporary classical, and challenge pre-existing notions of what music is and should be. He has performed across the United States, Europe, and Asia and has released five albums of his work internationally. Recent projects include the interactive sound-sculpture installation Iron Forest, created in collaboration with Malaysian architect Ween Fung Kang, as well as a suite of solo drum set works dedicated to his daughter. He has been reviewed by both independent media outlets and major news sources including the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, and LA Times.
SUDARSHAN CHANDRA KUMAR (°1987, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) is a freelance graphic designer and video editor who uses his free time to make music. He is a member of HKPT, Takdir and Sorry. He also records and releases music as Sudarshan and Larry Clark. Sudarshan sings, plays the guitar and uses various electronic instruments to create a wholesome musical experience. Citing influences as eclectic as Queen, Enya and John Williams, it is understandable why his performances have a reputation of being an explosion of color and passion. With his signature Kaoss Pad 3s, Sudarshan embarks on using his well established skills of showmanship to bravely tackle the more traditional genres of abstracts, sexuality, gender roles of sexual stereotypes and still lives whilst retaining the quirky and queer style that has proved to be such a hit with the audience and critics.
Ng Chor Guan is an invigorating music composer and sound designer for theatre, dance, film, concert music and new media. He started his career as professional music composer during his years in London. His work demonstrates an excellent integration of the classical and the contemporary. His music has been performed in a wide variety of mediums including orchestral, choral, chamber, and electronic music. Upon returning to Malaysia in 2006, he collaborated actively with theatrical artists and choreographers, who diversify his works into a new era.
KOK SIEW-WAI is a video artist and improvised vocalist. Siew-Wai has shown her videos and performed locally and internationally, participated in festivals such as Busan International Video Art Festival, Bangkok Experimental Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Kuala Lumpur Contemporary Music Festival, Choppa Eclectic Improvised Music Festival (Singapore) and more.
YONG YANDSEN is an improvised saxophonist. He is the woodwind player of Klangmutationen, where it has released albums through Utech Records (USA) and Dream Sheep (Italy). He has played at the Kuala Lumpur Contemporary Music Festival, Mosaic Festival Singapore, Choppa Eclectic Improvised Music Festival, Turn Around Free Jazz & Improvisation Festival amongst others. Yandsen has collaborated with musicians such as Goh Lee Kwang, Ng Chor-Guan, Thierry Monnier, Uchihashi Kazuhisa, Damo Suzuki, Darren Moore, Brian O’ Reily and more. Yandsen’s debut LP of solo saxophone improvisation was released by Doubtful Sound (France) in 2013. Yandsen, together with Moore and O’Reily have formed an improvised trio called Game of Patience and have toured to Japan, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
