SERIOUS PLAY IMPROV LAB (SPIL 010) will feature a rare guest from Vietnam! Electroacoustic musician LUONG Hue Trinh from Hanoi will be in town to join our 10th play lab! Also featuring GOH Lee Kwang, Sudarshan Chandra Kumar, YONG Yandsen and KOK Siew Wai.

ABOUT THE PERFORMERS:
LUONG HUE TRINH (Vietnam) – Electroacoustic Music
After studying from 1998 to 2010 at the Vietnam National Academy of music, Luong Hue Trinh graduated with honors in Jazz keyboard. In 2003 she was granted Exceptional Student by the Association of Yamaha Music, Japan. In 2010, she began to work in electroacoustic music and it became her main focus. Since then, she has been under the tutelage and guidance of composer and traditional music perfomer SonX in Hanoi. She composed soundtrack for experimental films, played live music with silent film, performed at various festivals, did sound installation in exhibitions and worked as a creator in the Echoes ( Soundwalk ) geolocative audio project. She performed and presented her works in Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Phillipines and Indonesia, China, Turkey, Denmark, US, Norway, Australia and Japan. Her work was published by the Urban Arts Berlin in the Synthesis Vol. 1 online and tape format in a compilation of sound works by female musicians.
KOK SIEW-WAI – Voice
KOK is an improvised vocalist. Siew-Wai has been performing since 2003, and has participated in festivals such as Kuala Lumpur Contemporary Music Festival, Asian Meeting Festival (Japan), Playfreely (Singapore), Choppa Eclectic Improvised Music Festival (Singapore), Improvised and Otherwise Festival (USA) and more. In February 2015, Siew-Wai joined the Ensemble Asia Orchestra led by Otomo Yoshihide, and performed in Tokyo and Kyoto.
SUDARSHAN CHANDRA KUMAR – Voice/Electronics
Sudarshan is a musician. He has contributed vocals and live electronics to bands such as HKPT, T!T!T!, and Takdir. His live setup is comprised of loopers, synths and effects pedals which are used to create improvised soundscapes. https://soundcloud.com/sudar
YONG YANDSEN – Saxaphone
YONG is an improvised saxophonist. He has played at the Kuala Lumpur Contemporary Music Festival, Mosaic Festival Singapore, Choppa Eclectic Improvised Music Festival, Turn Around Free Jazz & Improvisation Festival amongst others. Yandsen has collaborated with musicians such as Goh Lee Kwang, Ng Chor-Guan, Thierry Monnier, Uchihashi Kazuhisa, Damo Suzuki, Darren Moore, Brian O’ Reily and more. Yandsen’s debut LP of solo saxophone improvisation was released by Doubtful Sound (France) in 2013. Yandsen, together with Moore and O’Reily have formed an improvised trio called Game of Patience and have toured to Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The trio has recently tour Japan in June 2014.
